About This Event

Packing the Backpack
In today’s technology-driven world, our kids need a lot more than text books, a calculator and a few pens to ensure their success. And with our public education system in turmoil, there’s no guarantee that they’ll get what they need in school.
“How Far Would You Go?” team captains help TAF provide the skills and resources that every kid needs in his or her backpack to graduate high school, get into college and enter the workforce ready to be leaders and innovators.
|
Technology
Laptops, educational software, online student communities like Digital Learning Commons and Moodle, and interactive smart boards give all TAF students access to essential 21st century learning tools. |
|
Real-world learning experiences
Project-based learning modules, animation programs, and robotics kits are just some of the curriculum components that take learning beyond the walls of TAF classrooms. |
|
College & Career Readiness
Soft skills, like presentation, collaboration and interviewing, and practical experiences, like internships and an on-site college coach at TAF Academy, help underserved students build outstanding college resumes. |
|
Teacher Education
Professional development allows all TAF teachers to form a learning community that supports the learning process for all of our students with the latest teaching techniques and classroom technologies. |
|
Academic Support
Support takes many forms, like tutoring and field trips. But what about snacks? Because 60% of our TechStart students are on a free or reduced lunch program, it is essential that we provide a nutritious after school snack to keep their brain power up for our classes. |
When you add it all up, it costs an average of $2,000 to educate one TAF student for a year.
$2,000

…provides tools and resources many of our students
wouldn’t otherwise have.

a successful adult.

education one student at a time. |
