The Last Dance: Prom and An Evening of Celebration

 In TAF ACADEMY, Uncategorized

We know all about prom. It’s dancing and music… the normal scenario.

TAF Academy’s prom is a bit different. Prior to students letting their hair down on the dance floor, the school does something unconventional. It celebrates student achievement and hard work through an evening banquet and awards ceremony where parents, teachers, and administration recognize the students’ year-long effort.

This is a TAF Academy tradition. In fact, every year, the Middle School Leadership Team coordinates everything from decorations, set-up, and the transition to the actual dance.

This year, earlier this month, the celebration and high school prom entitled “The Last Dance” was held at the Des Moines Beach Park Auditorium. During the banquet, high school math and science teacher Brandon Carlisle served as the evening’s emcee, while TAF Academy’s principal Pam Tuggle and other teachers presented students with awards. Students were recognized by departmental excellence and other special categories. Some of the awards included the Rising Star Award which is given to students who have made great improvement academically and the Innovator Award for ingenuity and creativity. There was also a scholarship award presentation.

Once the ceremony ended, parents departed and the area was transformed to allow a night of dancing. It was, and has always been, a wonderful way to celebrate our students and provide them with another memory filled with encouragement, support, and of course…fun!
