Welcome back to ‪#‎STEMWomenWednesday‬-a biweekly hashtag we’re using to highlight Women in STEM.

We were inspired by TAF Academy Junior, Torri Brown last time! This week we will be highlighting TWO women- Nichelle Nichols and Shiza Shahid.

Shiza Shahid, Co-founder and Global Ambassador of Malala Fund

Shiza Shahid

Shiza Shahid is an entrepreneur and social activist of Pakistani origin. She is the Co-Founder and Global Ambassador of the Malala Fund, the organization representing the young Pakistani activist who was shot by the Taliban for her campaign for girls’ education. A graduate of Stanford University, Shiza was previously a business analyst at McKinsey & Company in the Middle East. She is now leading Malala Fund in its work to empower girls through education. Shiza was recently named one of TIME magazine’s “30 Under 30 World Changers” and to Forbes “30 Under 30” list of social entrepreneurs.

We newly announced Nichelle Nichols’ partnership with TAF through Starpower. Last week, Ms. Nichols took part in NASA’s Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) telescope flight that launched from the Armstrong Flight Research Center in California this month! Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek's Lieutenant Uhura and Entreprenuer

Nichelle Nichols is best known role on the series as communications officer Lieutenant Nyota Uhura. She later repeated her role in a string of successful Star Trek films: Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984), Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986), Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989), and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991).

Ms. Nichols was invited to join the board of directors of the National Space Institute, NASA asked her to participate in its astronaut recruitment programmer for the space shuttle project.
