Dear TAF,
Happy New Year!

The first two weeks of the New Year have started off with a sprint...

  • Open registration for our 8th Annual Leadership Breakfast begins today! You don't want to miss the opportunity to see our TAF alumni pass on the torch to the first cohort of TAF Academy. Register today!
And the next two months will follow suit...

  • On January 21 and 22, TAF Academy students will host their first Learning Conference where they exhibit their work. Stay tuned for an online peek at their exemplary work.
  • On March 25, TechStart students will compete (for the second year!) for the Future Technology Leaders award at the Washington Technology Industry Association (WTIA) Industry Achievement Awards. WTIA created this award just for TAF students as a way to recognize their work and dedication to learning.

We are also taking a critical step towards one of our next big goals... and we need your help.

I have written a lot lately about the Degrees Matter campaign and TAF's goal to change the trajectory of 20,000 students every year by 2020. In order to achieve that kind of capacity, we need a facility to house our programs and operations. That's why, as many of you know, we have partnered with King County Parks to build a Community Learning Space in the heart of White Center, King County. This $14 million LEED Gold certified building will be a hub for educational reform in our state. The county has invested $2 million plus 3 acres of land in Lakewood Park.

Because the building in White Center is crucial to meeting the needs of underserved students all over Washington, we have now applied for state funding. CTED (Community, Trade and Economic Development) awards bi-annual grants based on a competitive application process.

You can help us in the process by emailing your representative today. The more our legislators hear about TAF's success and importance to the students of color in our state, the more likely we are to receive state funding.

Add your voice of support to TAF by clicking on this link: http://www.leg.wa.gov/legislature. Next, click the "Find Your District" tab and enter your address. The site will guide you to your representative's page where you will find a link to his or her email. As you are writing your letter, you might consider addressing the following questions:

1. What TAF means to you (if you're a student or parent)?
2. What TAF means to the community?
3. Why do you support TAF?

Please help us reach our goals. Every voice counts!

Speaking of government... where will you be at 9:00am January 20th?

Thanks for listening!
