Backpacking for STEM
From the Dungeness River Trail, to Marmot Pass, around Buckhorn Mountain and Boulder Camp – last weekend, the TAF Academy hiking and wellness club took on the outdoors.
STEM learning extends far beyond the classroom and school year. On this backpacking adventure, the first for most, students learned to filter water, light and cook on back country stoves, put up tents, hang bear bags, identify local plants, and so much more!
TAF Academy teacher Kait Orr shared some special highlights from the trip. She reported that Vlada, who is Moldovian, made traditional borscht (a tart soup popular in eastern Europe) and students took 2 solo hikes on their own and were challenged to make observations and become more deeply aware of their surroundings.
