TAF Academy Competes And Wins At First Lego League Tournament

Congratulations to the TAF Academy middle school Robotics team, Techno Tigers!

Congratulations to the TAF Academy middle school Robotics team, the Techno Tigers!  The Techno Tigers won an Innovative Solutions Award for their electronics waste reduction project, the iSecure smartphone video security system.

December 5,2015- A team of 8 TAF Academy middle school students went to Chinook Middle School in Lacey to compete with other South Sound region teams in the First Lego League (FLL) “Trash Trek” challenge.

In the robot game portion of the event, the Techno Tigers scored 309 points, placing 9th in the field of 28 teams. Thanks to their overall performance, the Techno Tigers have qualified to move on to the Western Washington FLL Championships on January 23, 2016. Go, Techno Tigers!

TAF Academy is a 6th-12th grade STEM-focused public neighborhood school that prepares students for college and careers via an project-based curriculum. One of our primary goals is to enlist students as active participants in their own education, ensuring each students has the knowledge and experience to use STEM as a tool for positive social change; starting in their own community.

Teams competed in three areas:

  • The “Trash Trek” robot game, where the team’s robot had to conduct specific tasks on a table-sized field, with a 2-minute time limit.
  • The “Trash Trek” project, where the team had to present their innovative solution to a current problem in waste management.
  • FLL “Core Values”: the team had to demonstrate the values celebrated by FLL: Team spirit, efficiency, integrity, cooperation, and respect.
