TAF Internship, Part II

 In #TAFStory

And that’s a wrap!
It’s been such a wonderful summer here at TAF, and I’m so happy to have been able to be a part of it all.

I’ve learned a lot about how nonprofits work and how they use different resources, social media in particular, to expand their reach. TAF is a great organization, and my time here just reinforced that fact. I’m looking forward to future relationship with TAF, however that presents itself.
I have had my hands in a few different projects, all of which have taught me a lot. Over my two months here at TAF, I have

  • Increased the efficiency of tweets and boosted the amount of traffic on our Twitter
  • Opened a new social media channel (Pinterest)
  • Brainstormed on how to improve future campaigns with the help of social media
  • Photographed some of the awesome activities the campers and students have been doing
  • Done some of the more typical intern related activities, such as organizing our storage space (But I never had to go on an infamous coffee run)

I’ve seen what works well and what doesn’t work as well on social media sites. This helped me become a better advocate for TAF and grow the number of people TAF interacts with. Opening a new media channel was an especially good experience as it was a fresh start: a chance for me to build something from scratch that I could advocate for and create plans to improve. I’ve also been able to watch the number of interactions and followers on our Twitter and Pinterest. This showed me the difficulties of growing and maintaining an audience. I’ve also worked to help incorporate social media into future plans.

This experience gave me chances to create realistic schedules and brainstorm ways to get people excited to interact with TAF. This internship will tie in nicely with my studies in communications. I loved learning about how people interact online in professional settings. My favorite part was seeing what it’s like to start up a campaign, and then see that campaign come to fruition.

I’m back at school for my sophomore year. I’m excited to be back with everyone down here (and that California sunshine!) and to be getting back into the swing of things.

I am so thankful to have had this opportunity, I couldn’t have asked for a better internship!
