TAF@Saghalie Class of 2020 prepares to attend college
Currently, over 30 percent of TAF@Saghalie’s seniors have received and accepted college admission offers. In the coming months, we anticipate many more. Some of the colleges students will be attending include Central Washington University, Washington State University, and Seattle Pactific University.
“The big ones — UW and out-of-state selective colleges — will notify students in the next few weeks,” Sarah Wilkes, TAF College Readiness Program Manager exclaimed
Students are also stacking up scholarships. Chris Heredia, a student who has attended TAF@Saghalie (formerly TAF Academy) since 6th-grade, just received the four-year, full-ride tuition from the Act Six Scholarship. According to its website, Act Six provides “leadership training and full scholarships for emerging urban and community leaders who want to make a difference on campus and in their communities at home.” Chris will be attending Northwest University in the Fall. Last year, only five students from Federal Way Public Schools were offered Act Six. None of them attended TAF@Saghalie. Although there were more applicants this year, Chris represents the only student from TAF@Saghalie selected for this financial award.
Last year, TAF@Saghalie seniors had a 100% on-time graduation rate and a 100% college acceptance rate for those who desired to enter college after high school. Additionally, seniors were offered over $547,812 in scholarships.
We’re excited as we watch our seniors’ dreams come to fruition and report more college and scholarship updates in June.
